Overnight, USD is modestly higher, given the usual risk dynamics, as equity futures are open just slightly to the downside, EUR-USD has drifted down to around the 1.4860 level. GBP has also weakened, with EUR-GBP just breaking above 0.90 at one point, and cable now at around 1.6490. There was very little news overnight, as the data calendar was very sparse. We did receive a variety of different policy speakers, such as ECB’s Trichet, SNB’s Roth and BOC’s Carney. However, they did not add much to the macro picture, with the highlight being Carney; still, he was largely reiterating comments from previous statements about the downside risk that CAD strength is adding to the economy, and that he will use options “as necessary” as far as the currency is concerned. CAD is a touch softer at around 1.0680, as Dollar Bloc and Scandies are also on the weaker side to open up New York trading.
