The comments from the Fed's Bullard have caused some confusion, at one point suggesting that rates may have to rise more quickly because of asset bubble, while then suggesting that rates may not have to rise in the US until 2012. These comments were followed by suggestions from president Obama that there is a risk of a double dip recession. Meanwhile, the Fed’s Fisher has maintained the more dovish tone set by Bernanke at the beginning of the week. The mix of Fed comments has certainly taken the steam out of the asset market rally with equity markets struggling in the US and Asian trading sessions. This could see the currency rebound against the USD pausing briefly. Within Europe the hints that the ECB will start to unwind some of its liquidity measures in the New Year suggest that the European banks will have to repatriate capital now to prepare for the stricter regulatory environment. Hence the strong EURUSD forecast of 1.54 for year end and view dips back into the 1.4840 area as a renewed buying opportunity.
